APD Global has been proudly appointed to be the Independent Engineer for the Waratah Super Battery Project – WSB, on behalf of EnergyCo and Transgrid.
This ground-breaking battery, located next to Transgrid’s Munmorah Substation is set to become one of the largest utility scale battery in the world and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere – boasting an incredible 1,400 MWh capacity!
But it’s more than just a battery. The System Integrity Protection Scheme (SIPS) deployed with the battery is the core that keeps New South Wales’ power grid secure. Spanning 28 critical sites, SIPS monitors and controls power flow, ensuring stability when it’s needed most! ⚡🌐
As the Independent Engineer, APD Global proudly contributed to SIPS design, deployment and commissioning; bringing innovation and resilience to every step! Witness the future of energy stability unfold!
This project has had major national visibility, as was classified as a Priority Transmission Infrastructure Project under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment (EII) Act and directed to TransGrid by the NSW Minister for Energy. Initially the largest of its kind globally at time of award (now largest in the Southern Hemisphere) and serves as Australia’s largest “shock absorber” to secure supply for Sydney, Wollongong, and Newcastle.
